Assignment #6: Self Evaluation

1. Evaluation
Throughout this whole semester, I've been having quite a bit of trouble posting these posts or at least getting people to see them. What I've learned from this call is that you can tell quite a bit from a picture, book, or even flyer just by examining it. Looking at the pathos, logos, and ethos of things is really one of the real big things I learned. Another thing that I learned is getting back into the habit of not letting things go until the last minute and on how to write again. Being away or out of the schooling arena for four years really put a damper on my writing capabilities.

With this course, it gave me the chance to freshen up my skills as a writer and even gave me a chance to vent some of my past experiences. having fought for this country and then coming back home and now going to State College has really been a journey. I just hope I can keep everything going good for me and that this class provided me with enough skills to get me through these next four years. I appreciate all the time and patience that everyone has given me.

Assignment #5: In The Red and Brown Water

In The Red and Brown Water

This play was one the better plays that I had seen. Also it was my first play that was performed by college students. It starts off with a whole lot off drum banging and then leads into what I was guessing as oracles. Not sure when this was taking place but the story revolved around a girl named Oya. She was the fastest runner at the beginning of the story and was even offer a chance to run for one of the major colleges. Her mother ends up dying and she turns down the scholarship. After a while she began to have romantic relations with a guy name Shango who then left her to jion the Army.

Throughout the storty it seems to be kind of like a love triangle. Oya never really sure what she wants and gets mocked by the other girls in town. While Shango is in the military away, she gets involved with Oiy Gun, but when Shango returns she fools around with him. It goes back and forth quite a bit in the story. Never really found out what the motif of the story really was. Thought that the students did one hell of a job on the play though. Especially the guys playing the instruments on the side of the stage.

Assignment #4: Movie Review

The Social Network
Everyone knows what Facebook is and almost everyone has one. The Social Network is about  the life of Mark Zuckerberg and how he came up with the idea to start Facebook. This movie was released on October 1, 2010. Directed by David Fincher, The Social Network brought in over $224 million dollars worth of revenue since its release. The Social Network is the perfect college film. It shows how Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) and his best friend Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield). All college students want to come up with the next great phenomenon worth billions of dollars, and The Social Network shows how Mark Zuckerberg had to step on a few toes in order to achieve greatness.

The whole moviwe is about whether or not Mark Zuckerberg steal the idea of Facebook fromthe Winklevoss twins. Tghis movie is told throught the eyes of Zuckerberg. Saverin, his best friend is suing him for removing him as a co-founder and is seeking compensation. The movie recounts how the two friends came up with Facebook and even met the creator of Napster, Sean Parker. The Social Network is a greatt college movie because it involves a lot of partying and even a prestigious university like Harvard. It relates to almost every college student because Facebook is a common way that students interact with one another.

Assignment #3: The Arboretum

It being fall, I had figured the Arboretum to be dead plants and dying trees, but when I had got there everything was flourishing. They had all different kinds of plant-life there in different sections. Each section had it's own theme or section of different types of flowers.

Despite all the ongoing construction to make the garden bigger, the plants there were thriving as if it were the late spring, early summer. The care that gets put into maintaining this place is phenomenal. To visit this place is a must for all who go to Penn State and to all those who pass through.

Assignment #2: Palmer Art Museum

Beverly Pepper
American, b. 1924
World Beyond, from The Odyssey Series, 1989
Oil on Canvas

This painting caught my attention  right off the bat due to it's size. It is about five and a half to six foot across and about four foot tall. It has a plain wooden frame and is all black and white. The second thing that caught my eye was the title World Beyond, from The Odyssey Series. The Odyssey to me was a story of Jason of the Argonauts looking for the fabled golden fleece. Greek mythology is one of my favorite interests.

Beverly Pepper, was a American by birth who studied painting in New York and Paris after World War II, who later moved to Italy for most of her life. She began her career as a commercial art director and earned recognition as a painter in the 1960s, which then she turned her energies to creating the monumental sculpture for which she is best known, Santa Barbara Wedge of 1980-81. The Odyssey Series of the late 1980s, presumably an illusion to Homer's ancient epic poem, marked her return to painting.

The large abstract planes of black and white and vigorous application of paint evoke a powerful interrelationship of earth and water and the forces of nature. In any case, the landscape remains anonymous, free of architecture, landmarks, natural phenomena that might reveal a specific time and location.

Assignment #1

Template: I chose this template because it best describes and edgy yet refined look to it. It should make the page look more to my personality serious yet serene. It would be a very good template for a DJing website (if your into that kind of thing).

Title: The title "Renaissance Man refers to myself and what people might take away from here. Spending the last four years in the Marines, I can now say I know little about a lot of different things. Even this semester I'm taking ballroom dancing classes.

Color: The color is roughly nuetral, somedrak grey and blacks. This makes reading a whole easier if your not staring at a brightly colored screen. I want whoever reads my blog to at least walk away wondering why I wrote certain things without the headaches.

Font: The font is very simple but bold. I want it to be easy to read yet have my point get across. You don't need crazy font to get people to read, you just need a good title and theme.

Pages: The about me page will feature yours truly. Why not get to know the writer that is making you have to the rambling that are going to be written here. After reading that page you get a sense why I write the way I do.

All in all, I think my blog defines me in who I am and what I love (which may be sarcasm, Djing, having no clue how to have a blog, etc). Please feel free to leave me comments or snide remarks depending how you do or don't agree with me.
